rocky road ahead

Most of my friends believe that America has changed and not for the better in their lifetimes. They say we won’t be here to see it, but the end of our way of life is coming. They think that the American empire is going to pass from the scene. The Roman Empire lasted approximately 500 years (100 B.C. to 400 A.D.). Our empire has been around for half that time (1775 to present). Based on these facts, you could make the case that the U.S. has a long way to go before it bites the dust. However, that does not mean it’s going to be smooth sailing from here.

If the Left prevails at the ballot box this fall, we could soon see an economic crisis. Our government’s spending is dangerously out of control and no political will exists to slow it or stop it. In fact, our politicians promise subsidies and more free stuff at every opportunity. Endless free money could be the death of us because it causes inflation, indebtedness, and capital destruction.  Worst of all, it ruins the character of those who get it for a lengthy period. Sooner or later, free money can wreak havoc on the currency and the economy. We operate as if there are no limits. Nobody should rule out the possibility of a setback. We are embracing the same policies that terminated past civilizations and eradicated empires.
