Millions of people in the U.S. are unemployed. How do they get by without a paycheck? The government supports them. Numerous programs exist to get these people the necessary skills to hold a job and more will be coming from the new administration. Unfortunately, all too many people are unemployable. A person who steals can’t keep a job. A person addicted to drugs or alcohol won’t be employed. People who keep late hours will not get up and go to work. A lot of people who don’t have to work because of subsidies refuse to work. The government gives them enough money to get by which erodes their work ethic.
Welfare encourages poor character. When people are bored with nothing to do, they often resort to mischief. Despite billions spent on the underclass, crime and addiction flourishes and their numbers continue to grow. Welfare subsidies also work to curtail crime. What would the crime rate be if no government payments went out? We have created a huge dependent population that we are bribing to behave.
No other country has had such a problem for so long. Yes they have welfare issues in Europe and elsewhere, but they are much newer than the U.S. We’ve been making people dependent and unemployable for 85 years or more and as a result, they are worse off than elsewhere. The longer a population is subsidized, the more helpless and chemically dependent they become. This unique American problem is the greatest behavioral Catch-22 in the history of mankind. No good solution exists. behavioral catch-22 in the history of mankind. No good solutions exist.
