Jim Cook

Every once in a while I switch the TV channel from Fox to CNBC to see what the liberals are saying.  After listening awhile I get a deep sense of hopelessness and foreboding for our country.  The most important thing for the left is giving money to people.  They are happy to see the growth of food stamps, disability payments, housing subsidies, free healthcare and all the other welfare benefits.  They utterly fail to see the damage it is doing to the recipients.  Whole cities that once flourished have deteriorated into rotting eyesores populated with shambling hulks of chemically dependent drones.  These people are no longer employable.  They have become incompetent and helpless and the liberals can’t see that it’s their doing.

I understand the good intentions of some religionists who say "money doesn't make that much difference!"

That may be the real conviction of SOME people, but not most. I'm proud that one of my aunts is a nun, and I believe that of her. She made a lifetime vow to something more important to her than money, but few will do that.

Don't kid yourself, money makes a BIG difference to most people. Money determines where you live, where you travel, what kind of a car you drive, what you will eat this week, where your kids go to college and even who some of your associates are.

In addition to the AMOUNT of money you have or may not have, another consideration is WHAT money is.

If "money" can just be printed up, multiplied by computer keyboard strokes somewhere and distributed around by the politicians who did not create the money, then most people in pursuit of money want to be on the right side of the power structure that makes "money" out of thin air.

As the governments' central bankers keep trying to keep the balloon expanding instead of contracting, there is almost an insane game being played to be on the "getting" side and not the "losing" side.

Losers include, but are not limited to those with savings in banks or other fixed interest vehicles subject to taxation while the "winners" are those who borrow dollars they intend to pay back in greatly depreciated form. Persons on fixed income are also on the losing side.

It is a game millions are pushed into and they often don't even know why they are working so hard treading water and getting no where.

And when events finally bear out that the savers and misers were right; the government and the central bankers quickly change the rules of the game by creating even more funny money to give to one side against the others.

No matter what, the government will come to the aid of the inflationists.

It is a ponzi sheme....a pyramid of debits and interest to be paid that even Bernie Madoff could never have devised.

As a big balloon, you must keep it pumped up at any cost, and if the balloon has a hole in it, it must be filled even faster with air. It's the nature of the beast of make believe money. Until you understand this, you can't visualize why this current "crisis" is happening. Each time it seems the bullet has been dodged, only to wait for the next one that may burst the balloon into little remnants.

People work harder and harder in this magical game of "funny money" and end up with less, while those who team up with the "winning side," such as federal employees, federal vendors, federal politicians end up making fools out of the givers. It helps to decide early for some if they are going to be the milkers or the cow.

Moral values go down along with the declining currency. Few things seem worth saving for or sacrificing for.

Unbacked debit money becomes worth less every year. Would you want to hold a water bucket that is constantly leaking water? Holding unbacked Federal Reserve Notesis like holding a bag with a hole in the bottom of it.

As the currency becomes unstable, so does much of the rest of society and peoples' thinking. Everything is done for the instant....waiting and saving anything is for a time that may never come.

Deep down, most thinking people know the game is why not figure other things are fixed and start cutting corners?

And the politicians play the ends against the middle with a lot of worthless "issues." Both the Democrat and Republican Party add up to two wings of the same big bird of prey. One party worships state power for the welfare state; the other party worships the power of the state for warfare. Despite all of the claims that one party spends so much less than the other, history and the facts don't bear out that falacy.

As a former college president once told me, "One party is the express train to bankruptcy; the other is the afternoon local train." Both are going down the same track, but one at a slightly faster speed. In the end, one party might just get us there a little faster than the other one.
