Jim Cook

Every once in a while I switch the TV channel from Fox to CNBC to see what the liberals are saying.  After listening awhile I get a deep sense of hopelessness and foreboding for our country.  The most important thing for the left is giving money to people.  They are happy to see the growth of food stamps, disability payments, housing subsidies, free healthcare and all the other welfare benefits.  They utterly fail to see the damage it is doing to the recipients.  Whole cities that once flourished have deteriorated into rotting eyesores populated with shambling hulks of chemically dependent drones.  These people are no longer employable.  They have become incompetent and helpless and the liberals can’t see that it’s their doing.

I don’t believe Republicans will be able to slash as much government spending as they would. It is just human nature.

Here’s the problem: There are so many social programs that are permanently built into our lives that the people don’t want to get rid of them.

Most of our population says they want to cut spending, but they don’t want to cut their particular programs. I have a confession; I’m one of them.

Medicare is a pure socialist program. When I had a heart surgery, it cost me about $125,000 which I would have had to pay had it not been for Medicare. Instead, I paid only $5,000 out of pocket. Do I want to give up my $125,000? No! So I have
been bought.

Every government program benefits somebody, and they don’t want to give it up. It’s not just Medicare, but even all the gifts we have accepted from the government that are unconstitutional. We have built them into our plans for life.

Financial planners will simply incorporate many of these programs into their planning. Do you really want to give up Medicare? Do you really want to give up Social Security and other programs that you feel bless your life?

The point is that everyone who vigorously wants to cut spending wants to cut every program except the ones that benefit them.

If we want to cut spending, we have to cut most programs, including programs that would hurt someone’s income. We have adapted them to our lives.

When a Republican gets elected to the House or Senate, they find that if they want to cut something, they will cut somebody’s income. There will be all kinds of persuasive arguments against doing what they promised they would do.

We will never end the resurgence of socialism in our lives until we are willing to give up all of the socialist benefits. Then and only then will we really cut spending.

There will be a gradual cutback from cutting spending. Eventually, we will be right back giving people the usual government benefits they have
counted on.

Socialism never cuts real spending. It hasn’t happened in the history of the world.

Are the politicians who claim they want to cut spending willing to cut the benefits to their
constituents? That will never happen.

Ask yourself in your heart if you really want to cut all the benefits that come to you from the government. Are you willing to cut the benefits to your friends and neighbors that have been sold on the basis of compassion and the government helping people who are down on their luck? When that happens, Heaven is just around the corner.
