THE GREAT SWINDLE

Never before has it been clearer that our social and economic future will be disastrous. The trend is not our friend.  Most recently our loose money and credit policies created an unsustainable boom that turned into a bust.  Attempts to reignite the boom aren’t working and the failure of welfarism in Europe threatens to capsize world economies....Read More »

The US was a great place to live in. It still is but, we, along with all our friends now struggle against a recent doom of bubble land, darkness, a house of cards that we built with debt. Our money, which I refer to as blood money since you always really had to sweat blood to earn it – well that money itself has become some kind of super overly desired thing. It became an Idol. Did we all fall into the same trap? If you don’t remember, the US was really never about the money in the first place!

Real money is something you work for. And after that is done, you may rest from your labors earning it. Then, you can lie in the sun, and relax, you can see the trees and grass grow, all the while nourished from the fruits of your labors.

And it was blood money, money you sweated blood for. It was in a way, ‘Holy’. The fruits that sprang from it, that you were able to keep aside for when the dry times came. But in the dry times, you could at least water your own garden spot. And sit on the porch and watch the little creatures frolic, the flowers bloom, in your little garden. And your children could inherit it. Inherit the blessed land their father made for them. Even when it was not a great climate for such things.

..........

The US had once a currency that really helped to hold the world together. Even when parts of the world staggered, the USD was able to help. The People of the US had worked, saved, earned, for a rainy or hot day. They were able to keep the fruits of their labor, keeping a seventh of their harvest aside each year. Then, when the rains or floods or droughts came, they had time to adjust and fix what went wrong.

And when the rest of the world had their times of plenty, they too saved a seventh of their labors, of their own blood money, that their people sweated for too. And in their due season, they too could laugh and play even in the times of not so great weather. And soon the world learned during all this, after many cycles of feast and famine, that wisdom demanded one seventh held aside to keep one in times of trial.

How the USD ever left the gold standard (although really it barely ever even had one except only in principles laid out by our Fathers, the US always battled against/with various paper forms of currency in its history, its not like the ‘greenback’ was something of one form) but even so we did try many manifestations to achieve a gold backed currency over our own tremulous history. Even when the country was split apart in civil war, before and after during the period of Lincoln.

Even so now, the USD stands up.

But its people, who worked for their blood money, they sighed. They wondered if all the blood sweat and tears they shed, saving their one seventh each year, would remain, or was it already stolen from them? Their so called retirement plans were somehow hijacked, they were forced into plans not of the earners, but by clever magicians, who seduced the land’s governors, the elected officials entrusted with the reigns of the nation, by the people who voted.

And the seduced governors, and legislators, spent the savings of the nation, and even had the gall to take the saved blood money from the people, and spend it, saying the faith and credit of the nation stood behind the savings.

And it worked for a while.

But now, in times of a sort of famine, of work, when the people of the US all needed their saved seventh, they found the promises of the magicians to be a lie.

But who was the guilty party? Was it a seducer or the seduced? As they say, you can’t cheat an honest man.

Did the people lose their way, thinking they could trade their way to prosperity? Making more money in one day than they could earn or especially save in a year, in one day?

Like that ever was possible!

Never play cards with a magician.

Then the people grumbled. They wanted to hear that things were fine. That the siren song of easy fast money was true. That they could have a cake and eat it too. That ‘work’ was for slaves, not kings like they imagined they were. They lost their true place and now, well they are paying for it, and paying some piper, somewhere.

So too, the world

And even the rest of the world too all fell exactly, exactly into the same trap, and emulated something that should have never been dreamed up in the first place. And they are guilty as well, and they cannot say they did not lust too.

The rest of the world, admiring the great giant, the US heretofore who had strayed from its fathers way, also plunged into the easy fast money game, and emulated the tax deferred savings plans, and overtook their own ‘social security plans’ and spent that money well ahead before it was needed too, and they stole the peoples’ blood money they had unwisely entrusted to the government keepers, only to find the money was fled, years ago, not even now, but years earlier, when times were good. You think perhaps this all happened just recently. That only now, the theft and seduction was. No, it was all done years and years ago right under your noses! Who is laughing now aye!

The money was spent then, pledged ahead, wagered against, levered against, polluted even. The entire world fell into the same game of currency debasement and borrowing against the future of their children!

Such is an evil.

..........

The people who are the source of wealth, lost their first principles. They strayed from their father’s ways. They threw it all away. And of course what do you expect, but now the children of the fathers are in turmoil.

And even the turmoil spreads naturally into realms outside of where it started or belonged, from financial to the very fabric of the entire society into ‘politics’ which the US at least supposedly had mastered in a way to achieve synthesis of competing ideas in an orderly way, albeit a heated debate at times.

The US did that.

The US had orderly transitions of power, albeit heated at times. By doing so for hundreds of years, the US became a trusted source of stability for the world.

We still are. That is my firm belief and it’s not only hope, it’s based on what I know, that we have inside our spirit, a strong faith in our way of life. Even when we lose our way we find it, we always find it again. In the last moment, at the last second, we remember.
